AUTUMN/WINTER MEN'S FASHION TREND: THE LUMBERJACK
Whether you’re a rugged regular at XXL, a finger-tapping SCRUFF woof’er or simply someone who appreciates all things “plaidness”; there’s no denying that in recent years the lumberjack look has had a bit of a resurgence. The red and black lumberjack shirt is probably the most recognisable colour scheme and the most worn style throughout the years in this genre. And no; you don’t need an axe and a straggly old beard to achieve this look (…wood is optional). So as we step into autumn/winter it's time to explore the greatness once more with my guide on how to achieve the “lumbersexual” look!
Once a staple shirt for manual labour (notably wood chopping), the lumberjack is now a statement piece that adds some personality and style to both casual and smart casual outfits. The red and black lumberjack shirt is probably the most recognisable colour scheme and the most worn style throughout the years. Its vibrant clash of red, balanced out by the black gives it a striking yet versatile finish that’s given it endless styling options. Stick to a thick cotton shirt for a less flimsy, more rugged look. Here I am wearing a plaid shirt from H&M. RRP £19.99
THE LAYER EFFECT
To pull off this look and still remain warm; it’s going to be wise to layer your lumberjack. You can keep it casual by throwing on a plain white tee under your shirt or dress it up slightly and put a modern spin on the style by adding a black roll neck like I have here from ASOS. The contrast of the black roll neck under the plaid shirt really makes this outfit pop. It’s attractive, masculine and with just a little effort, easy to pull off. RRP £20.00
THE DENIM NECESSITIES
To tie in the ruggedness of the lumberjack look I suggest a final layer of denim. Here I have added a BoohooMAN denim jacket which I feel compliments and completes the style. Try to stick with light washed denim. As for completing the lower part of your outfit; ripped black denim jeans are fine to use in a pinch, but the washed denim gives a more natural finish that works well with the style. RRP £17.50
One things for sure; this style has a way of finding it's way back into our hearts year after year with subtle changes. Give it a go for yourself and let me know how you get on.
